Research priorities identify areas of intended focus. They do not establish that every described project is funded, operational, staffed, approved, or accepting participants.

The Institute should periodically review whether each priority remains important, sufficiently defined, ethically supportable, feasible, and aligned with its mission. New priorities may be added, and older priorities may be narrowed, merged, suspended, or concluded.

Contributing to Future Priorities

Strong research direction benefits from researchers, institutions, communities, practitioners, archives, and members of the public identifying important unresolved needs.

Proposals should describe the problem, who is affected, existing evidence, why further research is needed, possible collaborators, available data or facilities, and the form of public benefit the work could create.
